I have been riding and working with horses for over 35 years now! Growing up in rural Montana gave me endless opportunities to spend time with horses, from trail riding to cattle roundups to 4H and showing.
I started giving riding lessons to local 4Hers and horse enthusiasts when I was 15 years old. I went to college at Colorado State University and there participated on the equestrian team, took dressage classes and spent a year as a teaching assistant for beginning English and Western equitation classes. When I graduated, I pursued my passion for teaching and became a secondary science teacher. I spent three years in public education, teaching both math and science and then became a director for a Sylvan Learning Center. These experiences helped me realize my love of mentoring students as they grow and mature. Since horses taught me so much about becoming a hardworking, responsible and caring adult over the years, I decided to start up my riding lessons again. I am certified with the American Riding Instructors Association in both English and Western equitation. I focus on horsemanship, helping students understand how horses communicate, how best to care for them and how to become better riders. My goal is for all my students to learn the importance of first understanding the situation and then applying techniques with patience and persistence. |
